Scola’s 5th feature film, a masterpiece of black humour, an outlook in the almost incredible world of the sub-proletariat in Rome in the sixities. The film is sometimes a heavy caricature but on the whole dreadfully realistic. Nino Manfredi as the “Anti-geppetto par excellence” gives a brilliant performance.
