The tragic tale of the downfall of José, a young officer who, for the love of a woman, first becomes a thief, then an outlaw and finally a deserter. The object of his desires, Carmen, may be very beautiful but José soon discovers that she cannot be trusted. In the end, he kills her, losing his own life in the process.
